Electrical Muscle Stimulation (E-Stim)
A therapeutic modality that uses electrical impulses to reduce pain, decrease muscle spasms, improve circulation, and promote recovery.
Overview
Electrical Muscle Stimulation delivers gentle electrical impulses through pads placed on the skin over the area being treated. Most patients describe the sensation as a light tingling, buzzing, or pulsing.
E-Stim is commonly used to reduce pain, calm muscle spasms, and encourage circulation to an area. It can also help activate muscles that have become weak or inhibited — which is particularly useful early in recovery, before more demanding exercise is appropriate.
It is typically used alongside other care rather than on its own, complementing chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue work within the same visit.
